Overview

Located in the center of the Annapurna Region–Khopra Trek bears a hidden natural beauty of the Himalayas with magnificent scenes. Featuring almost non-existing trials in the mountains filled with an adventure into the wilderness, Khopra Danda Trek surely is one of the most underrated trekking destinations in Nepal. Khopra Danda contains the purest forms of views of the mountains, golden sunrises, and journey through the forest of rhododendron. Khopra Trek has no shortage of brilliant views and an amazing adventure, being a less popular trekking destination than others, you can experience a truly off-road journey to the panoramic heaven.

Khopra Trek, Annapurna’s top rising trekking destination, showcases the grand views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna (I, II, III, and south), Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Lamjung Himal and Nilgiri. Being a trek through the small trial in the forest and having less number of trekkers, the rural villages surely do give a taste of the local lifestyle. Just stepping up to being commercialized, its no wonder people trek to Khopra Danda to distinguish themselves for the normal trekkers and experience the beauty of the Himalayas from a different and more natural perspective. Khopra Danda Trek boasts a full range of views of the mountains, stunning river crossings along the way and a deep dive into the rhododendron forests. Trekkers can experience night outs in small local teahouses and lodges or perhaps step one step closer to nature and tent out under the wonderful starry nights in the mountains. Trekkers are also highly encouraged to take experienced guides and potters with you as some climbs can get tough and an unmarked path can lead you off the trail itself. The panoramic views from the top of Khopra Danda are the main attractions but the things to do and see within this trek extend well beyond just those. Indulge yourself on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley, filled with UNESCO heritage sites and have an amazing time on the city of lakes, Pokhara to enjoy the spectacular nightlife.

Experience a unique trekking route in the Annapurna Region with beautiful mountain views and nights under the bright stars. Perfect for anyone looking for something wild and different in their holiday to Nepal,  Khopra Trek surely provides a wonderful trip to remember in the Himalayas.

Guidelines Itinerary

After your arrival, you will be picked up at Tribhuvan International Airport and escorted to your hotel shortly where you can unpack and rest the night.
A tourist guide will take you to a historic adventure around Kathmandu where you will explore the traditional architecture and uniqueness of Kathmandu.
An early morning road-trip of 7 to 8 hours to the tourist capital of Nepal, Pokhara where you will leave the bustling city and take on the amazing sceneries of mountains and rivers of Nepal, you will spend the night at Pokhara where you can catch a quick glimpse of the nightlife and get ready for the journey tomorrow.
After a hearty breakfast at Pokhara, we take a short ride to Nayapul where our trekking adventure will begin. Alongside the mountains, you can find waterfalls and beautiful scenery of the hills on the way to Ulleri, a small village of local people with accommodations suited for trekkers.
An early morning continuation to our trek, ascending through the rhododendron and oak forest, we make our way to Ghorepani where we spend the night at a guesthouse.
Beginning our day before the sun rises, we trek our way to Poon Hill to witness one of the most popular trekking to-dos in Nepal, The Poon Hill Sunrise. Witness the golden sunrise with a 360-panoramic view of the Annapurna range and experience the true beauty of the Himalayas. After our breakfast, we head to Swanta with great views of the hills and mountains through a small trail in the jungle. Crossing a suspension bridge in the way, we take the uphill footsteps and finally arrive at Swanta in the middle of the hills.
Waking up to a hearty breakfast with a magnificent view of Dhaulagiri, we head deeper into the forest to ascend the Khopra Hill. Walking along an almost non-existent trail in the jungle, crossing small rivers, and stopping by the local teahouses, we climb up a steep hill further into our journey. Climbing up the off-beaten stairs on a rocky mountain, we get a blessed panoramic view of the hills and clear skies with the mesmerizing view of the Dhaulagiri range and Annapurna South.
Waking up a mind-blowing sunrise over the Khopra Danda, and after a hearty breakfast, we descend down through the rhododendron forest to reach Pauder.
Descending further through the off-beaten path of the mountains, we make our way to Tatopani, a local oasis full of hot water springs to relax with a calm hot water bath and staying the night at Tatopani.
From Tatopani, around five to six hours we drive back to Pokhara after an amazing exhausting trek and rest at Pokhara.
You might have just finished the wonderful trek to Khopra Danda but we have more to offer at Pokhara Valley, a destination filled with lakes, rivers, and heritage. But wait there’s more–when the sun sets, the real night-life finally kicks in at Pokhara where you can spend a wonderful night with live music and drinks.
It's now time to say goodbye to the beautiful Khopra Danda adventure and Pokhara and take a flight back to Kathmandu.
You now have a choice of departure or extending your trip to Nepal. Check out our packages and see what fits your taste.

    12 July, 2019.

My partner and I met KV Rai (owner and operator of Mountain Planner) in April of 2017 when he guided us on a 7 day trek in the Langtang Valley of the Himalayas. KV did everything to ensure that our trek was memorable. He was professional, knowledgeable, fun, and full of energy. My partner and I are highly athletic and he ensured that our pace and activities were consistent with our abilities and interests. KV also went out of his way to make our experience authentic, allowing us to interact with the villagers and owners of the teahouses in ways that we did not see others doing. We had an opportunity to cook with a family and share a meal and spent time with the villagers when other trekkers stayed with their groups. These were precious moments that left lasting impressions. Further, KV’s knowledge of geography, culture, politics, etc. made our trip a tremendous learning experience. We absolutely adored KV and trek. By the end of the trip, we had developed such a strong bond with KV and were so enamored with the Nepal he had shown us that we were determined to return the following year to do the Everest Base Camp trek.

We stayed in touch with KV via Facebook messenger and email throughout the next break we had from our work as international teachers and began to plan our next trip to Nepal. As we got closer to the trip we said that we would not go with another guide other than KV. We made this a reality, returning to do the Everest Base Camp trek in December of 2017.

Our trip completing the Everest Base Camp trek was spectacular. On this trip, KV was managing two additional clients. The first trek we were his only clients. Despite this, and the fact that the clients were not equip in many ways for such an undertaking, KV did a miraculous job of balancing all of our needs and varying physical capabilities. Again, he was professional, thoughtful, and knowledge. We watched him navigate some difficult choices to accommodate the limitations of his other clients, and balance giving us the time and attention as if we were family. Everest Base Camp was the single most amazing trekking experience I have ever had and may have in my life. An essential part of that was KV and the relationship that we had developed. KV ensures that you are informed, safe, comfortable (or as comfortable as you can be at 17,000 ft in December), and happy. His energy is infectious; his smile is joyous; his attention to detail fantastic.

The Everest Base Camp trek was a year and a half ago. I communicate with KV at least once a month. I am as close to him as many family members. He even offered to host our wedding at his family home. I cannot speak more highly of him and his business. If you want an authentic, memorable, once in a lifetime experience, trek with KV and Mountain Planner.

    11 July, 2019.

I highly recommend Mountain Planner. Kevin is a wonderful human.
It was so much fun to spend the week exploring Nepal with him. He did a great job customizing our vacation to fit our needs. We got to experience trekking in the mountains near Pokhara and the Annapurna range; explore the jungle in Chitwan National Park; explore the sights of Kathmandu; and see Mt Everest from a Himalayan mountain flight. Kevin arranged all of this and made great recommendations on all of it.
